Feet are a complicated area of the body since there are a lot of small bones which are joined together by a great number of ligaments and controlled by a lot of muscles. In addition to that we take weight on the foot and subject it to so many stresses and strains. To make it worse we place the feet inside the unnatural environment of a shoe. It's for this reason that the vocation of podiatric medicine exists as there is just so much that might go wrong with the foot and associated structures. Podiatric physicians utilize a wide range of different interventions to take care of conditions of the foot and lower limb.

Foot orthoses can be used to manage the wide array of problems that can go wrong with the feet. The purpose of foot supports are to change alignment of the foot in the direction of a more corrected normal position or to decrease the load in structures of the feet that are causing problems so that they can heal. The foot supports achieve that via having various design characteristics that are supposed to match the feet. A bespoke foot orthoses will do that. However, non-prescription orthoses are capable of doing that, usually by chance. They may or may not match the feet of the person with them whereas a custom orthoses will. There are various variations that could be varied, like the height of the arch and also the level of padding. There are even designs known as the Kinetic wedge and Cluffy Wedge.

From time to time the less costly over-the-counter type supports are better and other times the custom ones are more effective. It will all be determined by the type of the problem, the foot type and shape as well as the guidance of a good specialist as to what is the best alternative. If you have a problem with the feet and think you need some foot orthoses, then go to a good physician.
